29.09.2005 Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF) denuncia, in un rapporto pubblicato oggi, l'escalation di violenza nell'applicare le misure per il controllo dell'immigrazione che accompagna l'aumento del fenomeno migratorio al confine tra Marocco e Spagna. Dal 2003 MSF lavora in Marocco a un progetto sull'immigrazione. Dopo 27 mesi di attività, grazie alla raccolta di dettagliati dati medici e testimonianze, l'organizzazione constata che circa il 25% delle visite effettuate tra aprile 2003 e agosto 2005 non sono legate a patologie correlabili alle condizioni di vita precarie in cui vivono gli stranieri, ma ad atti di violenza diretta o indiretta. Su un numero totale di 10.232 consultazioni mediche, 2.544 sono infatti dovute ad episodi di violenza. Secondo le dichiarazioni degli stranieri visitati da MSF, il 44% dei casi di violenza è imputabile alle forze di polizia marocchine e ben il 18% alle forze dell'ordine spagnole.

29.09.2005 Continuing violence in the Sudanese region of Darfur is hindering humanitarian efforts and creating a chaotic situation there, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Jan Egeland, warned this week.

Rauhanneuvotteluja on jatkettu Afrikan unionin johdolla ja tuleviin neuvotteluihin osallistuvat kaikki konfliktin osapuolet. Tavoitteeksi sopimuksen syntymiselle on asetettu joulu-tammikuu, mitä Haavisto pitää optimistisena, muttei mahdottomana.

28.09.2005 The Janjaweed, a militia group allegedly allied to the Sudanese government, must be disarmed if peace is to return to the country's Darfur region, the U.N.'s Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide said Monday.

23.09.2005 Before his death in August, Sudan's first Vice President John Garang issued an ultimatum that come November, Northern Uganda's rebels operating out of southern Sudan would face military action if they failed to disband. With Garang out of the picture, the rebels continue to be active, killing 17 in one recent attack.

21.09.2005 In a further escalation of the conflict in western Sudan, rebels of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army have seized the previously government-controlled town of Shareya, northeast of Nyala, capital of South Darfur State, aid workers reported.

20.09.2005 A nutritional assessment conducted by Action Against Hunger in southern Sudan has found malnutrition "at or above the rates currently observed in Niger." The group is imploring the international community to focus resources on the nutritional crisis, which it says is being overlooked amidst the improving political situation.

13.09.2005 Karen Banks, The Association for Progressive Communications (APC) has recently issued a statement for stakeholders to sign a petetion protesting deterioration of human rights in Tunisia, with the Summit just 2 months away. The statement calls on all governments to "fully recognize the sovereignty of the situation and to bring pressure to bear on the Tunisian authorities to respect their international obligations".

Ma non si può dire certamente che il paese ospitante sia rispettoso del diritto a un’informazione libera. Il ‘Tunisia monitoring group’ ha criticato il governo tunisino con un rapporto dettagliato chiedendo in particolare la sospensione del blocco dei siti web. Dopo l’imposta sospensione di creare il sindacato dei giornalisti tunisini per motivi di “sicurezza nazionale”, il ‘giro di vite’ arriva anche sulla Lega diritti dell’ uomo a cui è stato impedito di organizzare il sesto congresso. In un documento una quarantina di associazioni denunciano “il progressivo degrado del clima generale delle libertà in Tunisia a due mesi dal Summit’’ con un appello ai governi affinchè facciano pressioni sulla Tunisia.
