25.03.2005 La dottoressa Maria Bonino, che da 11 anni lavorava in Africa come volontaria della ong Medici con l'Africa Cuamm, è stata stroncata ieri dal virus di Marburg a Luanda in Angola dove il virus, che causa febbre emorragica simile a del virus Ebola, negli ultimi mesi ha causato oltre cento vittime per lo più bambini. La pediatra italiana, originaria di Biella ma residente ad Aosta, negli ultimi due anni era impegnata ad assistere i bambini ricoverati presso l'ospedale provinciale di Uige. "La dottoressa Bonino - ha spiegato l'associazione - ha pagato con la vita il servizio prestato con umiltà e determinazione alle popolazioni della provincia di Uige che versano in uno stato di drammatica crisi in seguito all'aggravarsi dell'epidemia di febbre di Marburg che ha colpito la regione e la cui causa, rimasta a lungo sconosciuta, è stata identificata solo negli ultimi giorni".
