05.10.2005 Il Consiglio di Sicurezza delle Nazioni Unite è tornato a chiedere con “urgenza” e “senza ulteriori ritardi” che i ribelli ruandesi nascosti nelle foreste dell’est della Repubblica democratica del Congo depongano le armi e facciano al più presto ritorno nel loro paese visto che è gia scaduto il termine ultimo del 30 settembre. Il Consiglio ha chiesto agli stati della regione di “rispettare la sovranità e la Carta delle Nazioni Unite" ma non ha dato atto alla richiesta di sanzioni per l'Uganda fatta dalla Repubblica democratica del Congo. E sugli applausi al presidente ugandese Museveni al parlamento italiano arriva la critica del senatore Francesco Martone, segretario della commissione diritti umani del Senato. Secondo la Rete di Pace per il Congo "sono molteplici i segni delle mire espansioniste sul territorio del Grande Kivu e di saccheggio delle risorse minerarie della Repubblica democratica del Congo anche da parte del presidente rwandese Paul Kagame". Intanto a fine agosto più della metà dei soldati congolesi che appartengono al primo e al secondo battaglione della regione militare del Nord Kivu hanno disertato.
