31.01.2006 The Sudanese refugees remaining in detention in Cairo will not be deported, an Egyptian official has said. They were detained shortly before the New Year after police violently evicted them from the protest camp they had erected in a Cairo neighborhood to support their demands for resettlement to a third country.

It wants the EU and US to stop making excuses for not reforming agricultural trade rules and to end their unreasonable demands for developing countries to open industry and services markets.

28.01.2006 “La nuova sede Rai in Africa si farà presto: ci stiamo già lavorando” - ha confermato ieri sera il Direttore Generale della Rai Alfredo Meocci ai rappresentanti della Tavola della pace, del Coordinamento Nazionale degli Enti Locali per la pace e i diritti umani, delle riviste missionarie e dell’Usigrai che nelle scorse settimane avevano lanciato l'appello "Più notizie, meno gossip" denunciando i limiti dell’informazione televisiva sul Sud del mondo e chiedevano appunto l'apertura di una sede Rai in Africa. Nicola Colasuonno, direttore di Missione Oggi, ha espresso apprezzamento per la decisione, ma ha anche rinnovato la denuncia delle 42 riviste missionarie: “Dai TG vogliamo notizie e non gossip, attenzione ai problemi del Sud del mondo e non provincialismo”. Flavio Lotti ha ricordato che il prossimo 10 marzo 2006 si svolgerà una giornata nazionale per un’informazione e comunicazione di pace: “Milioni di italiani pagano il canone ed esigono che la Rai si metta davvero a servizio di tutti e della pace. La sede Rai che chiediamo di aprire a Nairobi deve essere un modello anche di nuove relazioni tra il servizio pubblico radiotelevisivo e la società civile italiana”. I missionari hanno già messo a disposizione della Rai la loro rete capillare di informazione presente in Africa.

26.01.2006 Dopo l’attacco agli uffici dell’Eni-Agip di martedì scorso, rimangono in fibrillazione i sindacati dei lavoratori delle compagnie petrolifere che chiedono al governo nigeriano maggiore sicurezza. Non è chiaro se l’attacco fosse finalizzato ad un rapina nel servizio tesoreria dell’azienda. “Un’incredibile quantità di petrolio viene esportata e sfruttata da multinazionali straniere senza che gli abitanti di queste terre possano beneficiarne in alcun modo” aveva dichiarato monsignor Festus Okafoa, vicario della diocesi di Port Harcourt, la ‘cassaforte’ dei circa 2,5 milioni di barili di petrolio nigeriano esportati ogni giorno. Alla diffusa povertà si aggiungono i “danni” provocati dalle multinazionali del petrolio. Intanto diciotto membri del Congresso degli Usa hanno ufficialmente chiesto al Presidente Bush di condonare la quota americana di debito estero che la Nigeria dovrebbe pagare a favore di programmi per l’istruzione e sanità.

26.01.2006 I bambini di Bamako, capitale del Mali, corrono felici, guardano con curiosità i diecimila partecipanti alla marcia per la giustizia che apre la sesta edizione del world social forum, la prima volta di questo evento mondiale in Africa. Corrono a farsi fotografare, ad ascoltare i tamburi del Burundi, il corpo di ballo del Burkina Faso, le maschere rituali dei Dogon. E’ un giorno diverso per loro, chissà se si ricorderanno questi momenti, se potrà servire a qualcosa, a migliorare le loro vite. Il Mali é uno dei paesi più poveri del mondo : qui un quarto dei nati non raggiunge i cinque anni di vita, l’aspettativa alla nascita è di poco superiore ai quarant’anni ed è peggiore rispetto al 1990. Ogni donna, in media, partorisce 6 figli, oltre metà della popolazione non dispone di acqua potabile e meno della metà dei giovani completa gli studi, con le bambine chiaramente più penalizzate. Bamako diventa dunque il tentativo di dare un nuovo slancio ai temi del social forum, coinvolgendo dal basso la società civile, i movimenti sociali del continente più martoriato, tutte quelle persone che non hanno la possibilità di viaggiare, di raccontare al mondo il dramma di paesi ricchi di risorse e di umanità, ma drammaticamente esclusi dall’economia globale. - di Roberto Bombarda, Forum Trentino per la Pace
