Captive breeding of Tibetan antelope, also called the Chiru, may be difficult due to the inhospitable terrain and the need for large financial resources, the Power Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Nuwang Rinjin Joora, has said. The shahtoosh shawl, which provides livelihoods to a large number of people, is made from the hair of the Chiru due to which the animal now figures in the list of endangered species.

Residents of Lhasa in Tibet have stopped displaying animal skins after they found that monks were burning animal skins. Yeshi Dorje, a resident of Lhasa has said that thousands of people turned up for the skin-burning event but the Chinese authorities are preventing people from destroying the skins.
