21.12.2006 Johannesburgin kestävän kehityksen huippukokouksessa vuonna 2002 julkistettu Suomen ja seitsemän Keski-Amerikan maan energia- ja ympäristökumppanuus on löytänyt tehokkaat toimintatavat. Ohjelman kautta on annettu tähän mennessä rahoitusta 92 hankkeelle. Kehitysyhteistyö Burkina Fason kanssa päättyy, kertoo toinen uutinen.

19.12.2006 Suomen vuonna 1998 aloittama kehitysyhteistyö Länsi-Afrikassa sijaitsevan Burkina Fason kanssa on saatu päätökseen. Yhteistyön tuloksena kehitettiin suomalaisella tietotaidolla Burkina Fasolle soveltuva tehokas metsäpalojen torjuntajärjestelmä. Hankkeen toteuttamiseen osallistui Burkina Fason hallitus sekä tuhansia kyläläisiä neljässä läänissä.

Tuore oikeusjuttu Burkina Fasosta paljastaa, että taistelua ei ole voitettu edes siellä, missä käytäntö on julistettu laittomaksi. Kansalaisjärjestöt arvioivat, että noin kaksi miljoonaa naista ympärileikataan vuosittain pääasiassa Saharan eteläpuolisessa Afrikassa ja Arabian niemimaalla.

04.08.2004 Salametsästys hävitti elefantteja Burkina Fasosta hälyttävää vauhtia 1980-luvulla. Hallitus julisti tuolloin elefantit uhanalaiseksi lajiksi, ja niiden metsästyksestä tuli laitonta. Parissakymmenessä vuodessa norsukanta onkin kasvanut nopeasti. Elefantteja oli 1980-luvulla jäljellä enää 350, mutta nykyään kanta on kasvanut jo noin 5 000 yksilöön.

23.01.2004 Amigos de África ofrece becas de estudio a niños de Burkina Faso para darles formación y asistencia y facilitarles el acceso a un trabajo y a un futuro más digno. La beca cubre los gastos de formación, vestuario, atención a la salud y manutención. Además, un sistema de compensación permite que niños sin beca también puedan beneficarse de la ayuda. Las personas que colaboren con la iniciativa recibirán correspondencia con información del niño y de las actividades realizadas durante el curso.
