29.01.2007 Decine di migliaia di manifestanti hanno sfilato sabato scorso per le vie di Washington per chiedere il ritiro delle truppe Usa dall'Iraq. Tre giorni dopo la bocciatura, da parte della commissione Esteri del Senato, del piano Bush per l'invio di altri 21.500 soldati la manifestazione convocata da United for Peace and Justice, una coalizione di circa 1.400 gruppi, locali e nazionali, contrari alla guerra, ha visto la partecipazione di tanta gente comune, ma anche leader Democratici, star di Hollywood - tra cui Jane Fonda, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon e Tim Robbins - e parenti dei soldati di stanza in Iraq, arrivati da ogni parte degli Stati Uniti. "Non più soldi per la guerra", "Stop alle uccisioni in Iraq" sono stati alcuni degli slogan sugli striscioni innalzati dai dimostranti - 500mila secondo gli organizzatori - che hanno ripetuto il successo del settembre del 2005 quando a Washington scesero in piazza circa 300mila persone.

25.01.2007 SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 24 (OneWorld) - At least 186 antiwar protests in the United States have been monitored by the Pentagon's domestic surveillance program, according to documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which also found that the Defense Department collected more than 2,800 reports involving Americans in a single anti-terrorism database.
