Proteste a Singapore al meeting Fmi-BM
18.09.2006 L'azione di protesta da parte delle Ong internazionali dei seminari programmati con Banca mondiale (BM) e Fondo monetario internazionale (FMI) agli incontri annuali delle due istituzioni, ha portato l'Unione europea e lo stesso presidente della Banca mondiale, Paul Wolfowitz, a stigmatizzare la condotta del governo di Singapore che, nei giorni scorsi è tornato sulle proprie decisioni autorizzando l'ingresso di 22 dei 27 attivisti che erano stati banditi dalla città asiatica. Nella lista nera delle autorità erano finiti anche due italiani, Antonio Tricarico ed Elena Gerebizza di Crbm/Manitese. "Troppo tardi" - commentano le Ong che all'apertura del contro-forum di Batam, isoletta indonesiana a poche miglia da Singapore, avevano lanciato il loro boicottaggio agli incontri di BM e FMI. Tra le principali questioni in agenda negli incontri delle due istituzioni la revisione delle quote di potere dei Paesi membri del FMI: il sistema della distribuzione dei voti non permette ai Paesi in via di sviluppo di avere voce in seno all'istituzione.

14.11.2003 Singapore’s Parliament has amended Article 15A of the Computer Misuse Bill, allowing continuous surveillance of cyber-suspects and authorising their pre-emptive arrest before a crime has been committed. Reporters Without Borders has warned against the risk of abuse of the amendment. Cyber-criminals are liable for jail terms of up to three years.

Execution in Singapore.
01.10.2003 Indian human rights organisation, People's Union for Civil Liberties, has launched an email petition to save a young Indian from imminent execution in Singapore. The rights body has found a number of serious discrepancies in the case of Arun Prakash Vaithilingam, who has been sentenced for murder.
