As part of The Great Volga River Route project, an International Workshop on Sustainable Development and World Heritage took place on 28-31 July 2005 in Bucharest, Romania.The aim is to link young people through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and engage them in the preservation and promotion of World Heritage and Biosphere sites.

Digital photogrammetry techniques can be used for documentation of Iraqi cultural monuments to preserve this otherwise vulnerable heritage. In an effort to protect it, a trilateral capacity building programme for Iraqi cultural officers has jointly been initiated by Latvia, UNDP and UNESCO.

U.S. opposition to the International Criminal Court has led Washington to suspend military aid to 35 countries that won't sign bilateral agreements exempting U.S. citizens from punishment for war crimes--even though some are helping the U.S. in Iraq. Threatening friendly countries, says Human Rights Watch, "is a highly short-sighted and counter-productive approach to U.S. foreign policy."
