There has been major increase in Afghan opium supply in 2007
21.11.2007 Opium accounts for more than half of Afghanistan’s GDP (at 53%) in 2007, says UNODC’s recent Afghan Opium Survey. The total export value of opiates produced and trafficked from the country hit $4 billion this year, of which three-quarters have been made by drug traffickers and insurgents, says Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of UNODC.

13.11.2007 Amnesty International accusa l’Isaf, la missione internazionale a guida Nato in Afghanistan, di "esporre i detenuti al concreto rischio di subire maltrattamenti e torture a opera delle autorità afgane". Un rapporto diffuso oggi documenta come le forze Isaf - soprattutto quelle di Belgio, Canada, Norvegia, Olanda e Regno Unito - abbiano trasferito detenuti alla Direzione nazionale della sicurezza (Nds, i servizi di sicurezza afgani), nonostante questo organismo sia al centro di costanti denunce di tortura. “Gli Stati che fanno parte dell’Isaf sono vincolati a rispettare l’obbligo internazionale di non trasferire detenuti alle autorità afgane se questi fossero a rischio di subire maltrattamenti e torture” – dichiara Amnesty. L'Onu ha espresso più volte la propria preoccupazione per l’operato dei servizi di sicurezza afgani.
