SAN FRANCISCO, Jul 22 (OneWorld) - Iraq's most revered Shi'ite cleric called for an end to sectarian violence Friday, just days after separate announcements declared that, on average, 100 Iraqi civilians died every day in May and June and more than a 1,000 fled their homes each day over the past five months.

SAN FRANCISCO, Jul 12 (OneWorld) - Iraq will ask the United Nations to end immunity from local law for U.S. troops, the country's human rights minister said on Monday, as the military named five soldiers charged in a rape-murder case that has outraged Iraqis.

SAN FRANCISCO, Jul 5 (IPS) - IPS contributor Alaa Hassan was killed on his way to work last Wednesday. He was 35 years old. He is survived by his mother, five brothers, five sisters and his wife who is pregnant with their first child.
