27.04.2006 Sono il capitano dell'Esercito Nicola Ciardelli, il maresciallo capo Latanzio Franco e il maresciallo capo dei carabinieri Carlo de Trizioi tre militari italiani morti nell'attentato di stamane a Nassiriya. Dell'attentato è rimasto vittima anche un militare rumeno e oltre ai cinque militari a bordo del mezzo colpito ci sarebbero "molti" altri militari del convoglio diversi dei quali in gravi condizioni. Non è ancora chiara la dinamica dell'attentato: secondo le prime informazioni, tuttavia, la bomba sarebbe stata fatta esplodere al passaggio di un convoglio della Msu, l'Unità speciale multinazionale guidata dall'Arma. L'esplosione avrebbe investito in pieno uno dei tre mezzi, devastandolo. "Sgomento e immenso dolore" viene espresso dal presidente della Repubblica, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi e da tutte le forze politiche. L'ultima "azione ostile" nei confronti dei militari italiani si era avuta solo 5 giorni fa: un ordigno posto ai lati della carreggiata, fatto esplodere, anche in quel caso, al passaggio di un convoglio. Ma si parlò di una bomba a basso potenziale e di un'azione che poteva dunque essere soltanto dimostrativa. Con quelli di oggi sale a 29 il numero dei militari italiani morti nell'operazione in Iraq.
