A study by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency says that China's carbon dioxide emissions last year were the largest in the world. But it seems the responsibility for China's soaring emissions lies not just in Beijing but also in Washington, Brussels and Tokyo.

Kiina on julkaissut oman ilmasto-ohjelman kasvihuonekaasupäästöjen rajoittamiseksi. Ohjelman puittessa Kiina pyrkii parantamaan tuntuvasti energiatehokkuutta sekä lisäämään uusiutuvien energialähteiden käyttöä. Kiina on mukana Kioton sopimuksessa, mutta sillä ei kehitysmaana ole sitovia tavoitteita päästöjen rajoittamiseksi.
