Film-maker Kim Longinotto took it as a challenge when the compere at last year's OneWorld Broadcasting Trust’s media awards ceremony said he hoped that the following year's event would include films with positive images of Africa. “It got me thinking,” recalls Longinotto. “Every film on Africa seemed to be about AIDS or refugees or war. I took it as a direct challenge.” The result of her thoughts can be seen in London on 26 and 28 October.

Tšadin ja Kamerunin sopimuksessa öljy-yhtiöiden kanssa kielletään valtioita puuttumasta 650 kilometriä pitkän öljyputken toimintaan. Amnesty International pelkää, että sopimus aiheuttaa ihmisoikeuksien sivuuttamista. Molemmissa maissa ihmisoikeustilanne on jo valmiiksi heikko ja putken vuoksi on jo noussut esille muutama väite ihmisoikeusloukkauksista.

It's not a cure. But a group representing 60,000 health professionals is "optimistic" about the health-care deal hatched by Canada's first ministers last week.
