30.05.2006 Burma’s democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, was arrested in May 2003 after the regime’s militia attacked her convoy and killed up to 100 of her supporters. She is still in detention. She isn't allowed to see family or friends. Her phone line is cut and her post is intercepted. Join the global campaign to free Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners in Burma.

27.05.2006 Burma’s military dictatorship extended Aung San Suu Kyi’s detention at the weekend, despite calls for her release from UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. The move was also an embarrassment for UN Under-Secretary Ibrahim Gambari, who campaigners said was "duped by the regime’s lies and propaganda" during his visit to the country last week.

On the weekend, it looked as if the junta was taking a step back by permitting a senior United Nations official to meet incarcerated, pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
