Lo riportano le Nazione Unite nella "Giornata internazionale di lotta alla povertà" che si è celebrata oggi, 17 ottobre. A vent'anni dalla prima Giornata internazionale, l'Africa sub-sahariana continua a mantenere il triste primato con un numero di poveri pressochè invariato che supera i 300 milioni. Secondo la Banca Mondiale, se il trend attuale continua la povertà diminuirà entro il 2015 solo del 10%, ben lontano dal primo degli Obiettivi del Millennio, il dimezzamento della povertà nel mondo. Per questo oggi la Campagna internazionale per gli Obiettivi ha chiesto a tutti di "Stand up", alzare la propria voce per richiamare i leader di governo a mettere in atto politiche per realizzare gli Obiettivi stabiliti all'Onu nel 2000.
