17.02.2006 Confirming what Amnesty International has repeatedly said, the U.N. issued a report concluding that the U.S. is in violation of the Convention against Torture and must bring detainees to trial or release them. Amnesty maintains that Guantánamo is "just the tip of the iceberg", and calls for other facilities to be opened to independent scrutiny.

E Nigrizia, che fin dall'inizio ha seguito il caso, chiede una forte mobilitazione invitando a scrivere ai giornali perchè la vicenda dell'assassinio di Ilaria e Miran non si chiuda con le sciagurate parole del Presidente della Commissione; invita inoltre tutti a partecipare il 28 febbraio (dalle 10 alle 16) - giorno dei lavori della Commissione che precede la presentazione della relazione conclusiva - ad un "presidio di memoria e di vigilanza" sotto il palazzo romano di San Macuto - Roma, Via del Seminario 76 dove sono gli uffici della Commissione Parlamentare Alpi.

09.02.2006 A U.N. panel of sanction experts has urged the authorities in neighboring countries to crack down on unofficial arms shipments to Sudan. Weapons continue to spill into the troubled Darfur region of Western Sudan in direct violation of an arms embargo in place since 2004, and the panel reports that rebel groups are also receiving financial and political support from neighbors.

07.02.2006 Al di là del ritiro delle truppe dall'Iraq sembra che la questione del modello di difesa e delle spese militari sia volutamente preclusa dai dibattiti politici televisivi. E' tutto da verificare che il "centro-sinistra" intenda davvero sostenere una politica di disarmo, di riconversione dell'industria militare e di pace. Dagli ultimi convegni organizzati dai DS appare l'esatto contrario. Anche le pressanti domande che l'appello "Addio alle armi" pone alle forze politiche rischiano di cadere nel vuoto se non ci sarà una veloce e forte mobilitazione del popolo della pace. Non c'è solo la questione del ritiro delle truppe dall'Iraq: c'è il fatto che, nonostante i nostri giornalisti televisivi se lo scordino puntualmente, l'Italia è il settimo paese nel mondo per spese militari e spende pro-capite ben di più della Germania. E' venuto il momento - come scrive Renzo Craighero (Nodo Lilliput di Bologna) - di "tallonare realmente le forze politiche impegnandoci di più nel delineare strategie concrete di superamento degli apparati militari e di costruzione di forme di difesa non armata". Avanzo pertanto una provocazione al 'popolo della pace'...

07.02.2006 The Security Council has authorized the transfer of U.N. troops from Liberia to Cote d’Ivoire in the wake of anti-U.N. violence. 200 soldiers from the Nigerian contingent will be transferred to the Cote d’Ivoire mission until March 31 and individual sanctions against members of the Young Patriots movement are expected on Tuesday, a move many fear will incite more violence.
