MELBOURNE, Mar 28 (IPS) - Organisers of Earth Hour 2008 estimate that in excess of 30 million people worldwide will take action on Saturday to raise awareness of how small changes can make big differences when it comes to climate change.

Reducing output of black carbon -- a particulate matter recently found to have an atmospheric warming effect three to four times greater than previous estimates -- "would have immediate societal benefits in addition to the long-term effect of reducing greenhouse gas emissions," say scientists.
