31.07.2006 Alppien jäätiköt voivat sulaa vuosisadan loppuun mennessä, jos ilmaston lämpenemistä ei hillitä. Uuden tutkimuksen mukaan viiden asteen kesälämpötilojen nousu sulattaisi jäätiköt kokonaan ja kolmen asteen nousu sulattaisi niistä 80 prosenttia. Jäätiköiden sulaminen voi aiheuttaa tulvia ja maanvyöryjä, se myös vaikuttaisi turismiin epäsuotuisasti.
