Campagna 'Libera l'acqua'
07.03.2008 Il CIPSI in vista della 'Giornata Mondiale dell’Acqua' invita alla conferenza stampa “Libera l’Acqua. Riconosci un diritto e portalo a chi non ce l’ha” che si svolgerà lunedì 10 marzo a Roma. Durante la conferenza, oltre a presentare 5 richieste concrete di cambiamento per l’acqua sul pianeta, saranno indicate le iniziative di sensibilizzazione nelle città italiane e estere che si svolgeranno nel mese di marzo per riconoscere il diritto di tutti ad accedere all'acqua potabile ed ai servizi igienico-sanitari. Oggi un 1,6 milioni di persone non hanno accesso all’acqua potabile, 2,6 milioni non beneficiano di alcun servizio sanitario e 1,8 milioni di bambini muoiono ogni anno per malattie connesse alla mancanza di risorse idriche.

07.03.2008 With money and technical assistance from the international community, Bangladesh government has achieved considerable success in installing sanitary latrines throughout the country, leading to significant reduction in diarrhoeal deaths. From the current 85% coverage, it appears that achieving sanitation for all by 2010 is very much possible.

As women and their daughters spend hours collecting water, they cannot go to school, work and earn; while poor sanitation lead to ill health and loss of privacy. WaterAid is working to make women’s voices heard in the politics of water.

04.03.2008 Old habits die hard. Nothing can illustrate this better than the fact that 70% of Pakistan’s rural populace still defecate in the open. The problem of poor sanitation in the country is largely attributed to the lack of awareness and a mindset that refuses to adopt safe toilet habits.

03.03.2008 It was due to the efforts of 79-year-old Achyutha Bhat, that a village in Karnataka in southern India could overcome water scarcity. His passion for digging surangas (man-made tunnels) has not only revived the traditional water harvesting system but also helped local farmers in the region.
