NEW YORK, Feb 20 (OneWorld) - UNICEF is best known for its work on behalf of children in the developing world, but its latest report turns an eye to the well-being of children in 21 wealthy nations including the United States, which ranks second to the bottom overall.

Tim Vade Srbije za implementaciju Strategije za smanjenje siromaštva je objavio konkurs za program Kontakt organizacije civilnog društva za implementaciju Strategije za smanjenje siromaštva. Program treba da doprinese razvijanju mehanizma komunikacije i saradnje između vladinog i nevladinog sektora, da jasnije definiše preporuke i stavove šireg foruma civilnog društva, kao i da doprinese da organizacije civilnog društva učestvuju u ključnim procesima u vezi sa sprovođenjem SSS koje sprovodi Vlada (definisanje politika, implementacija programa, praćenje i izveštavanje). Radi detaljnijeg upoznavanja sa ciljevima i aktivnostima predviđenih programom Kontakt organizacije civilnog društva za implementaciju Strategije za smanjenje siromaštva u Republici Srbiji, zakazana je najava programa u Medija centru, 22.02. od 14 do 16h.

“Felix” and “Roma Star” NGOs held a round-table discussion in Bitola, last week, to discuss the topic “Implementation of Strategy for the Roma Facilitates EU Integration”. In the discussion, they came to the conclusion that two memoranda of cooperation need to be signed as soon as possible, one with the local self-government and the other with Employment Agency.

The state of California in the United States has for a while been the standard bearer of policy measures that reduce state responsibility in critical areas that were typically the responsibility of public provision earlier. South Asia still has nearly 400 million poor people in a population of 1.42 billion. Although, on the criteria of purchasing power parity (PPP) of US$ 1 a day, the scale of poverty has come down from 51.3 per cent to 31.3 per cent in 2001, the challenges to overcome poverty are so enormous that the efforts being made to alleviate poverty are far from being equal to the task. Poverty is not just endemic, but it is increasingly concentrated in the lagging regions.
