UNESCO handed over 82 pieces of equipment, granted under a US$2.5 million project, funded by Italy, to create a new TV studio aimed at developing educational broadcasting in Afghanistan. The project started in 2003, and helped the Ministry of Education to achieve its goal of providing education to Afghans in all parts of the country.

Indian state Gujarat, which lies on the west coast, is celebrating a successful school enrollment drive that started five years ago to ensure all children, especially girls, are enrolled in schools. Through community mobilisation in 18,000 Gujarat villages the initiative has met with sizeable success.

Jo kauan puhutun ja odotetun kehitysaskeleen arvellaan toteutuvan vuoteen 2015 mennessä. Uudistuksen odotetaan lisäävän maailmanlaajuista tieteellistä yhteistyötä sekä auttavan konkreettisesti syrjäisten seutujen terveys- ja koulutushaasteiden ratkaisemissa.

The BBC World Service Trust's Afghan education project (AEP) has won a Bronze World Medal for its children’s radio programme, The Ruined Castle. The prize was awarded at the International Radio Broadcasting Awards, which is part of the New York Festivals.

Vision Ed’s Stonington Retreat in New York City will host a four-day intensive workshop on how best to integrate creative technology into classrooms. The retreat will help teachers, parents and administrators to start or continue a technology program at their schools or organizations. The retreat will take place from July 31st – August 3rd, 2007 at NYU’s Kimmel Center.

Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) has launched the Global Young Social Entrepreneurs’ Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Global Competition will select 100 winners who will attend the upcoming Young Social Entrepreneurs Forum. The winners will be announced on 1 October 2007, after a review by an independent jury.

Suomen Lähetysseuran Tasaus-keräyksen varoilla toteutettu luku- ja kirjoitusprojekti Kambodzhan Ratanakirin läänissä tuo tuloksia. Alueella asuvat vähemmistökansat eivät osanneet lukea edes omalla äidinkielellään, mutta nyt muutos on hyvässä vauhdissa. Lukutaidon myötä myös asema yhteisössä paranee.

Aivovuodosta pyritään eroon lisäämällä opiskelijoiden ja tutkijoiden liikkuvuutta EU:n ja välimeren maiden välillä. Informaatio- ja kommunikaatioteknologiat näyttelevät merkittävää osaa alkavassa yhteistyossä. Suunnitteilla on muun muassa Välimeren alueen monikielisen digitaalisen kirjaston perustaminen.
